Oregon car shipping often comes down to mountains. I-5 runs the length of the Willamette Valley from Portland through Salem and Eugene, then climbs over the Siskiyou Pass near Ashland, the highest point on the entire interstate. I-84 follows the Columbia River Gorge east and then crosses the Blue Mountains. Auto transport in Oregon is straightforward most of the year, but winter chain rules and summer wildfire smoke both shape the schedule.
Portland is the main hub, with many people relocating to and from California, Washington and the Mountain West. Bend has grown quickly, drawing remote workers and retirees, and its location east of the Cascades means carriers reach it by US-97 or over mountain passes. Eugene, Corvallis and Salem see steady moves tied to universities and state government. Sahara Auto Transport schedules each pickup with the terrain and season in mind.
Access is another factor. Inner Portland neighborhoods have narrow streets, street trees and bike lanes, so many pickups move to a nearby open lot. Coastal towns along US-101 are reached by winding roads through the Coast Range. Rural properties in the Rogue Valley or central Oregon may have long gravel driveways. Pickup and delivery
Where we ship in Oregon
Portland
Older neighborhoods on the east side have narrow streets and mature trees, so many pickups happen near I-84, I-205 or I-5, while suburbs like Beaverton and Gresham are easier.
Salem
The capital sits right on I-5, so Salem pickups fit easily into north to south runs between Portland and California.
Eugene and Springfield
University of Oregon moves peak in June and September, and I-5 and I-105 give carriers good access.
Bend
Rapid growth and many new subdivisions make Bend a busy origin, though carriers reach it by US-97 or over passes like Santiam and Mount Hood.
Medford
Southern Oregon pickups sit just north of the Siskiyou Pass, where winter chain requirements can affect timing.

Chain rules, wildfire smoke and the rainy season
From November to March, snow and ice can hit the Siskiyou Pass on I-5, the Blue Mountains on I-84, and the Cascade passes on US-26 and OR-22. ODOT often requires chains or traction devices, and commercial trucks may be held until conditions improve. Winter shipments through southern and eastern Oregon should allow an extra day or so.
Summer brings wildfire season, usually from July into September. Smoke can reduce visibility, and fires sometimes close highways in southern and central Oregon. The western valleys see steady rain from fall through spring, which rarely stops shipping but can make gravel driveways soft. Spring and early summer are often the smoothest times to ship.
Local know-how
Tips for shipping a car in Oregon
- If you are in inner Portland, plan to meet the driver at a nearby open lot. Narrow streets and parked cars make it hard for a full trailer to stop.
- Winter shipments over the Siskiyou Pass or the Blue Mountains may be held for chain requirements. Flexible dates help.
- New residents should apply for an Oregon title and registration through Oregon DMV. Most states expect registration within about 30 days of residency, and the Portland and Medford areas require DEQ emissions testing for many vehicles.
- During wildfire season, check ODOT TripCheck for closures and stay reachable in case the driver needs to adjust the route.
- For Bend and central Oregon, book early in winter, since fewer carriers are willing to cross the Cascades during storms.
