Wyoming car shipping means long miles and few cities. Even Cheyenne, the largest, has fewer than 70,000 residents, and towns elsewhere can sit 100 miles apart. I-80 crosses the southern edge from Nebraska to Utah, I-25 runs from Colorado north through Cheyenne and Casper, and I-90 cuts through the northeast corner past Gillette and Sheridan. Carriers use these roads constantly as through routes, which helps when your pickup sits close to an interstate.
Demand comes from energy work in Gillette, Casper and the Green River basin, F. E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, University of Wyoming students in Laramie and second homes around Jackson Hole and Cody. People also ship vehicles into the state for ranch work and seasonal jobs near Yellowstone and Grand Teton. Many shipments start or end on the Colorado Front Range, since Cheyenne is only about 100 miles from Denver.
Sahara Auto Transport schedules carriers into and out of every part of Wyoming. Because the state is so spread out, we are honest about timing: a pickup on I-80 in Rock Springs is easy, while a ranch north of Pinedale may need a meeting spot and a little patience. We also keep a close eye on wind and winter closures, which affect Wyoming more than almost any other state. If your dates can flex by even a day or two, that patience usually pays off with a smoother pickup.

Home to the University of Wyoming on I-80 at more than 7,000 feet, with student moves in August and May.
Gillette
A Powder River Basin energy town on I-90, where shift workers and contractors move vehicles in and out year round.

A mountain resort town reached by US-191 and US-89, with winter avalanche risk and limited space for large trucks.
Routes our carriers use
Main corridors in and out of Wyoming
I-80
Crosses southern Wyoming from Pine Bluffs to Evanston, one of the busiest truck routes in the West and one of the most weather-exposed.
I-25
Runs from Colorado through Cheyenne, Wheatland and Casper to Buffalo, where it meets I-90.
I-90
Enters from South Dakota near Beulah and passes Gillette, Buffalo and Sheridan on the way to Montana.
US-191 and US-89
Connect I-80 at Rock Springs with Pinedale, Jackson and Yellowstone, two-lane roads that slow or close often in winter.

Wind, I-80 closures and a short summer season
Wyoming's wind is a shipping factor in its own right. Strong gusts between Laramie and Rawlins, near Arlington and Elk Mountain, regularly lead WYDOT to close I-80 to light, high-profile vehicles, and empty or lightly loaded trailers may have to wait. In winter, snow and ice add full closures on I-80 and I-25 that can last hours or a day. We build buffer time into winter quotes and track conditions through WYDOT's 511 system.
Summer is the busy season for Jackson, Cody and the Yellowstone gateways, when tourists and seasonal workers arrive and two-lane roads fill with RVs. Teton Pass between Wilson and Idaho is steep and poorly suited to large trucks, so Jackson deliveries usually come in from the south or north on US-191 and US-89. Hunting season in fall brings another spike of traffic in rural areas.
Local know-how
Tips for shipping a car in Wyoming
- Wyoming has no toll roads, so you will not need a transponder in state.
- For ranch or remote addresses, plan to meet the carrier in the nearest town on a paved highway. Long gravel roads and cattle guards are hard on loaded trucks.
- Most states expect registration within about 30 days of residency. In Wyoming, registration runs through your county treasurer, so check with the county and WYDOT for current steps.
- Check wyoroad.info or WYDOT 511 before a winter pickup or delivery. I-80 closures can happen quickly.
- Shipping to Jackson in summer? Book early, since the season is short and demand is concentrated from June to September.
